General Meeting held in the Hall Friday July 28th 1922 at 8.15 p.m.

Mr J. LUMBARD pro., Mr W. PATCH sec. that we provisionally accept the Rev. VASSAL’s offer of part of the field adjoining the Hall for a Tennis and Boles [sic] green, the rent to be nominal. The Men’s Club to be pioneers of the formation of the clubs.

Mr A. TOMPSON pro., Mr H. WARR sec. that the following be appointed to mark out the Tennis and Boles greens:

Messrs. W. LANG; J. LUMBARD; R. JEANS; R. LANG; Mr DUNSTER

Quotations to be obtained from the various sources and submitted to a Committee meeting to be fixed at a subsequent meeting.

Run two billiard ‘handycaps’ one for senior members and one for junior members

Balance sheet of the Social showed balance in hand at £1.12.7 ½

 

Feb 14th 1923

Letter from Miss JEFFERY offering the Men’s Club the balance of their recent Whist Drive £5.0.0. with the stipulation that it should be used for better lighting of the clubroom either by petrol lamps or towards electrical installation.

Meeting agreed to purchase 2 petrol lamps from Mr BRICE, Yeovil, at 30/- each.

 

July 18th 1923

Messrs SANDERS, KENNEDY and Co. approached for lowest estimate for fixing electric light in the clubroom and also in the large hall in the event of the Trustees granting permission to assist to fix it. Also agreed that Secretary should write to W.I. and place the idea before them to ask their help in raising funds to cover the cost.

 

July 27th 1823

Rev. VASSAL, on behalf of the Trustees, offered to bear the cost of the expense of the Meter for Electric current at £4. This was accepted.

Also accepted SANDERS, KENNEDY and Co. estimate of £19 for wiring Men’s Clubroom for electric light. That electric light be used solely for the Benefit of the Men’s Club. A hearty vote of thanks to Rev J.G. VASSALL for the way he has met us over the Electric Light and also for supplying us with power from his plant.

Whist Drive and Dance arrangements included offer of a cockerel by Mr PATCH for the competition, draw of a ticket 2d, holder of lucky number to purchase cockerel for 3d.

“A Big discussion then took place re the interest of the Villagers in regard to the Social Life of the Club, but as no proposition was put forward the matter was talked out.”

 

Nov. 7th 1923

Considered buying a bagatelle table from Ilchester, result of an answer to an advert.
