but are mentioned here due to their connection with the parish.

 

Private Walter John GREENING, No.10700 5th Bn.

Born at Cattistock, Dorset, and enlisted at Dorchester, Dorset, the son of William and Eliza Greening of Chilfrome, Cattistock. Killed in action during the assault on Turkish trenches between Aire Kayak and Susak Kuyu, Suvla, on Aug. 21, 1915, aged 20 years.  Name commemorated on the Relies Memorial.

 

Private Bertram LEGGE, No.9917 5th Bn.

Born at Chilfrome, Maiden Newton, Dorset, and enlisted at Dorchester, Dorset, the son of Charles and Mary Legge of Chilfrome. Brother of Pte. Cyril Legge (see below). Killed in action during the assault on Turkish trenches between Aire Kayak and Susak Kuyu, Suvla, on Aug. 21, 1915, aged 30 years. Name commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

 

Private Cyril LEGGE, No.9918 5th Bn.

Born at Chilfrome, Maiden Newton, Dorset, and enlisted at Dorchester, Dorset, the son of Charles and Mary Legge of Chilfrome. Brother of Pte. Bertram Legge (see above). Killed in action during the assault on Turkish trenches between Aire Kayak and Susak Kuyu, Suvla, on Aug. 21, 1915, aged 21 years. Name commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
