This is the Last Will and Testament of me Richard CHAPMAN of Haselbury Bryan in the County of Dorset, Gentleman, as follows.

Ffirst I give and devise unto John SMART and William DIKE both of Haselbury Bryan aforesaid, all that my ffreehold messuage or tenement situate at Woonston in the parish of Haselbury Bryan aforesaid, with the backside and garden thereunto belonging with the appurtenances to hold to them, their heirs and assigns forever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants.

Also I give and devise unto my nephew John Mohun CHAPMAN of Chichester in the County of Sussex Common, Brewer, all my several ffreehold messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments situate, lying and being in Haselbury Bryan, Ffif Nevill, Stower Provost otherwise -- or elsewhere in the said County of Dorset, together with all and all other my lands, tenements and hereditaments, whatsoever and wheresoever with their and every of their rights, -- and appurtenances to hold unto the said John Mohun CHAPMAN, for and during the term of his natural life without impeachment of wast? (subject nevertheless as herein after mentioned) and after his decease, to Richard CHAPMAN, one of the sons of the said John Mohun CHAPMAN and the heirs male of the body of the said Richard CHAPMAN (subject nevertheless as herein after mentioned) and in default of such issue to John CHAPMAN, one other of the sons of the said John Mohun CHAPMAN and the heirs male of the body of the said John CHAPMAN (subject nevertheless as hereinafter mentioned) and in default of such issue them to my own right, heirs forever subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the payment of one annuity or yearly - charge of ten pounds unto my brother James CHAPMAN, payable monthly or every month by equal payments during the term of his natural life, the first payment to begin and be made at the end of one month next after my decease and also subject.

And my Will further is and I do hereby direct that my said brother James CHAPMAN shall be at liberty to live and reside in my said dwelling house where I now live, situate in Haselbury Bryan aforesaid, with such person or persons as shall from time to time be invited to the same for and during the term of his natural life, rent free and free from all demands whatsoever for so during without the molestation, interruption or denial of my said nephew John Mohun CHAPMAN, or of his sons, the said Richard CHAPMAN and John CHAPMAN, or their heirs or of any other person or persons whatsoever and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said brother James CHAPMAN, the said annuity or yearly rent charge of ten pounds, payable as here in before mentioned, with which payment I do hereby express charge, my said ffreehold messauges , leases, tenements and hereditaments, with their and every of their rights, members and appurtenances in manner as aforesaid.

Also I give and bequeath unto my said brother James CHAPMAN, all my wearing apparel both linen and woollen.

Also I give and bequeath unto my nephews John SMART, James CHAPMAN and William CHAPMAN, five pounds each of lawful money of Great Britain.

Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Ann, the wife of William DUNFORD, the sum of ffive pounds and to my nephew Caleb BURGE, the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money, all which legacies are to be paid by the Executors herein after named immediately after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah CHAPMAN and Mary CHAPMAN, the daughters of my said nephew James CHAPMAN, the sum of twenty pounds each of like lawful money, to be paid them by my said Executor as they shall severally attain their respective ages of twenty one years.

Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth, the wife of William NORTHOVER, the sum of ffifty pounds of like lawful money, to be paid her by my said Executor in six months next after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto all and every the child and children of my nephew, the said William CHAPMAN, which shall be living at the time of my decease, the sum of ten pounds each of like lawful money, to be paid them by my said Executor, as they shall severally attain their respective age of twenty one years.

Also I give and bequeath unto all and every, the child and children of my nephew Robert SMART, which shall be living at the time of my decease, the sum of ffive pounds each of like lawful money, to be paid them by my said Executor, as they shall severally attain their respective ages of twenty one years, with the payment of all which said several legacies.

I do hereby expressly charge and subject all my goods, leasehold estates, chattels and effects whatsoever hereinafter mentioned and all the rest, residue and remainder of my goods, chattles, leasehold estates, monies, securities for money and all other my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever, the same may be.

I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said nephew, the said John Mohun CHAPMAN subject nevertheless as aforesaid and I do hereby desire and command my said Executor to be good to and assist my said brother James CHAPMAN when and as often as he shall need the same. And I do hereby make, nominate, constitute and appoint my said nephew, the said John Mohun CHAPMAN, sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former Wills by me made, declaring this only to be my Last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof, I the said Richard CHAPMAN the Testator, have to this my Last Will and Testament, set my hand and seal the fourth day of May in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty two.

This Will was proved at London the twenty second day of August in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty two, before the Right Worshipful Peter CALVERT, Doctor of Laws, Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, lawfully constituted by the oath of John Mohun CHAPMAN, the sole Executor named in the said Will, to whom Administration was granted of all and singular, the goods, chattels and credits of the deceased, he having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.
