1803 August – The Vane upon Holwell Tower was given by Benjamin Freeman Coleman Esq

cost Seven Guineas.

 

1806 April 29 – A Painting of the King’s Arms was placed in the Parish Church of Holwell given by Henry Daubney Esq of Buckshaw.

 

1809 April 30 – William Sargeant was chosen by the Rector Parish Clerk, and this Choice was signified by the Minister to the Parishioners on the following Sunday, as directed by the ? Canon.

 

1809 May 14 – James Gray was chosen Clerk by the Rector in the room of William Sargeant, resigned.

Newspaper cutting  (following 1812 bapts and 1812 burs)

“A Witness at Fontenoy – The following interesting announcement is culled from the ‘Bristol Journal’ of August 25th 1804: - At Holwell, Dorset, Martha Ross, aged 97. She was with her husband in the hottest of the battle in May, 1745, at Fentenoy (sic), under William Duke of Cumberland, and was particularly noticed by the Duke for her intrepidity, and assistance to the wounded and slain.”

 

22.12.1811 buried William Gillingham age 66

“He was found dead on Tuesday Morning the 17th Inst: on the Turnpike road opposite Cerne with a wound on the bridge of his nose, which must have occasioned his death. Verdict of the Coroner’s Inquest Wilful Murder against some Person or Persons unknown. Sir John Wyldbore Smith Bart, as acting Magistrate for the Subdivision of Cerne, offered a reward of Twenty five Pounds for Discovery.”

 

Memorandum (follows 1812 burials)

The Altar Tomb in Holwell Church Yard to the Memory of Robert Bridgi/es who died 9th April 1607 was repaired by Benjamin  Freeman Coleman the 11th July 1816 – and again repaired in July 1822.

 

1817

In the beginning of the year 1817, the old Galery of Holwell Church was raised about 20 Inches; the two under-galeries were erected for the exclusive use of the Holwell Sunday School; and kneeling boards were placed in all the single Pews. The expences of this alteration were defrayed in the manner following:
