On the wall inside of the church there is the last Will and Testament of Adam Jones of Holworth. It reads as follows:

The last Will and Testament of Adam Jones, of Holworth, in the Parish of Abbots Milton, in the County of Dorset, dated the 26th Day of April, in the year of our Lord, One thousand Six hundred & fifty-three.

Item. I give to the Church Acc’t of Owermoyne, the Sum of twenty Shillings.

Item. I give unto the poor of Owermoyne, aforesaid, all that my Freehold Estate, which I purchased of one John Grant, of Owermoyne aforesaid, lying and being in the said Parish of Owermoyne, to be and remain Whole to the use of the Poor, of the said Parish of ~ Owermoyne for evermore. And the Profits thereof to be distributed to the Poor of the said Parish, by the Minister, Churchwardens, and Overseers, successively for Ever. (that is to say) four Days before every of the most usual Feasts, or Terms in the Year. And to such as have not relief, as well as to such as have Relief, but not to ease the Parish in any respect.

Item. I give to the Poor of the Parish of Owermoyne, aforesaid, five Pounds, to be distributed accordingly to the discretion of my executors, within six Months after my Discease. (Decease)

Item. I give to the Parish of Owermoyne, the Sum of ten Pounds, to be and remain in Stock, to the use of the Poor of the said Parish of Owermoyne for evermore.

Proved at Westminster, the fifteenth Day of May, One thousand six hundred and fifty-three.

Large picture of the birth of Jesus , to be found on the wall to the left of the Altar.

 

The grave of George & Margaret Garland And their son, Victor Claude who was a Private in the Winnipeg Rifles and killed in the 1st World War. His name is also inscribed on the war memorial inside of the church.

 Flat topped headstone with cross and ivy leaves carved at the top.

 

In Loving Memory of George Garland, 1852 – 1934

Also of Victor Claude, Son of the Above

Killed in Action in France September 16th 1916, aged 22

 ‘Duty nobly done’

‘Sleep on beloved ones in thy blest abode’

THOMAS GARLAND of ASKERSWELL

 

In the name of God Amen, I, Thomas Garland of Askerswell in the county of Dorset, Carpenter, being of sound and improving mind and memory and understanding do this Twenty fiveth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand and seven hundred and sixty three make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath to my brother Henry Garland of Bothenhampton in the said county of Dorset, labourer, the sum of ten pounds to be paid ** by my executors herein after named within Twelve months after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto Henry Garland son of my brother Henry Garland aforesaid the sum of Twenty pounds to be paid within Twelve months, also I give and bequeath unto Robert Garland son of my brother Henry Garland aforesaid the sum of Twenty pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto my cuzan Richard Garland of Shipton in the county of Dorset, Yeoman, the sum of four pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto my cuzan Richard Garland aforesaid his four sons; That is to say his Thomas Garland and to his son John Garland and to his son Richard Garland and to his son – Garland the sum of Sixteen pounds, that is to each of them Four pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto Thomas Hall of Askerswell the sum of Five pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto Mary Guy, daughter of Thomas Hall aforesaid the sum of Five pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto Mary Guy’s two children, that is to say, to her daughter Mary Guy the sum of Five pounds and to her son John Guy the sum of Five pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto Dorothy Rufroff of the Parish of Askerswell the sum of Five pounds to be paid within Twelve months after my decease.

Also I Devise give and bequeath unto my cuzen John Hall that now lives with me the house and garden and orchard that I now live in, in the Parish of Askerswell.

Also I give and bequeath unto my cuzen John Hall my bed and all there unto belonging and all my wearing apparel and I give and bequeath unto my cuzen John Hall my Garden of Seat – Hold within the Parish of Askerswell.

Also I Devise give and bequeath unto Henry Garland the son of my brother Henry Garland of the Parish of Bothenhampton the house and garden now in the ?? possession ?? of Charles Bagg within the Parish of Askerswell, and all the rest, residue and remainder of my goods, chattels, monies, securities for money, Estates whatsoever and wheresoever after payment of my debts ? funeral expenses. I give and bequeath unto my Executor’s herein afternamed and I make ? and appoint my cuzen John Hall and my cuzen Richard Garland, now at sea, the son of my brother Henry Garland joint Executor’s of this my last Will and testament and I do hereby revoke all former wills and do declare this to be my Last Will and Testament.

Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
