EDUCATIONAL

Shaftesbury Grammar School, which stands on the eastern outskirts of the town, in the parish of St. Peter's on an elevated & extremely healthy position, was founded in 1728: the present buildings, erected in 1878, are in the so-called Queen Anne style: the school has been reorganized under a scheme sanctioned by the Charity Commissioners & was opened January, 1879; additional buildings were erected in 1913 & 1923: the buildings include a head master's residence, laboratories for chemistry, a carpenter's shop, cricket pavilion, gymnasium, assembly hall, & adjoining is a cricket field of almost 8 acres: there are now (1935) 165 boys, including boarders.   Robert William Borley esq, J.P. chairman of the governors; Edward N.G. CONVEYANCE

Motor Omnibus from the Grosvenor Hotel, to & from Semley Railway Station to meet all trains except the 10.27p.m. train, which is only met by appointment & on Sundays 6.pm only, others by appointment

Motor Omnibuses run from the Town Hall, Shaftesbury, via Gillingham, to Wincanton 3 times daily and to Salisbury there is a frequent daily service.  There is also a frequent service between Shaftesbury and Bournemouth via Blandford, and to Yeovil, Donhead & Tisbury daily & Knoyle on Friday.
