I have not included all entries that are similar, for example regular visits by the Rev SOUTHWELL, but I hope that the
transcript will give some idea of the schooling received by the children of Yetminster at this time. I have tried to
reflect the spelling of Emma SQUIRES.

The school was open 460 times during the year 1878
The number of children on the books was 111.
Of these only 45 were qualified to be presented to Her Majesty’s Inspector on Jan 22nd 1879 as having attended 250 times, the number of attendances required by the Elementary Education Act.

Summary of H.M. Inspector’s Report February 17th 1883
“The school is only in a moderate state of efficiency: there is a need of more thorough teaching. The supply of Reading books wants further renewing. New slates are wanted for the Infants and the pictures and colours mentioned in last year’s Report have not yet been procured. Some fire irons are wanted. Part of one of the classroom walls is giving way and two windows are broken. A drain is wanted outside the doors of the offices, and a urinal should be put up for the Infant Boys.”
A qualified Assistant Teacher (article 50) or a transfer Pupil Teacher should be at once engaged. (Articles 83 and 115 Code of 1882)
The Registers should be kept under proper supervision on the part of the Managers.
E. BOW has passed fairly but should attend to Grammar. She should be informed that she is now qualified under Article (79) but not under Article (60).
