A Topographical Dictionary of England 1831.

BUCKHORN-WESTON, a parish in the hundred of REDLANE, Sturminster division of the county of DORSET, 8 miles (W. by N.) from Shaftesbury, containing 327 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at #10. 1. 3., and in the patronage of Lady Stapleton. In the chancel of the church is an ancient statue, supposed to be that of the father-in-law of Gascoigne, Lord Chief Justice in the reigns of Henry IV. and V.; the gallery is said to have been painted by Sir James Thornhill, who resided in a neighbouring parish.

BUCKHORN WESTON, a village 4 miles E.S.E. from Wincanton (Somerset) and 8 half W.N.W. from Shaftesbury, it has a handsome church in the Norman style, the living of which is a rectory. The parish comprises 2,080 acres, and had in 1841 a population of 460.

Kelly's Directory of Dorsetshire, 1889

BUCKHORN WESTON is a scattered parish on the Somersetshire border, 4 miles south-east from Wincanton, 8 half west-by-north from Shaftesbury, and 4 west-by-south from Gillingham railway station, in the Northern division of the county, hundred of Red Lane, Shaftesbury petty sessional division, Wincanton union and county court district, rural deanery of Shaftesbury, archdeaconry of Dorset and diocease of Salisbury.  The river Cale forms a portion of the southern boundary of the parish.  The church of St. John the Baptist is a building of stone, which was thoroughly restored in 1872, principally Early English, consisting of chancel, nave of two bays, north aisle, added in 1872, south porch, and square embattled western tower, surmounted by pinnacles and containing 6 bells:  the pavement is of encaustic tiles, and the fittings of pine: there are the remains of a roof-loft and a tomb with recumbent male figure: the church has sittings for 300 persons.  The register dates from the year 1657.  The living is a rectory, tithe commuted at £310, with 60 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of Sir Francis Stapleton bart. and held since 1877 by the Rev. Wyndham Charles Hardy HUGHES-D'AETH M.A. of Corpus Christi college, Oxford.  Here is a chapel for Primitive Methodists.  Here is a reading room supported by voluntary contributions.  There is a stone quarry at Weston.  Sir Francis STAPLETON bart. who is lord of the manor,  and Mrs. FANE are the chief landowners.  The soil is clay; sub-soil, blue clay.  The land is principally pasture. The area is 1,632 acres; rateable value, £4,123; the population in 1881 was 517.
