DORSET OPC CONTACTS

Many parishes have a dedicated volunteer Online Parish Clerk (OPC). To contact the OPC for a specific parish go to the Parish Page and click on the name of the OPC, this will generate a correctly addressed email for the OPC. Please add "OPC" and the name of the parish to the subject line before sending your enquiry (if this is not generated automatically).

If you use web mail and do not have email software on your computer, then the link will not work to launch your email software. In this case enter the Parish name (partial name is sufficient) and press Submit. The contact details will be displayed

Enter Parish name to get OPC contact details:

If there is no OPC named on a parish page then there is currently no-one responsible who can provide lookups, hopefully the information already online may be of help. Of course if you would like to volunteer to take over one of these parishes, take a look at our page that gives information about the role (OPC Info on the home page) and contact the Co-ordinator. New volunteers are always very welcome

Lost OPCs - Unfortunately a small number of OPCs can no longer be contacted using the contact email addresses I inherited. If these volunteers could contact me (see Contacts Page) I would like to know if they wish to continue with theirparishes, if not then I can offer these parishes as vacancies for others to take up. If anyone else has contact details for them please let me know: Sandy Pearcey Powerstock, Julia Chaplin Bloxworth, John Hardy Maiden Newton, Jim Gardiner Melbury Osmond, Deborah Carmichael Monkton Wyld & Wambrook and Stephen Plowman Winterbourne Steepleton

OPC Co-ordinator

Jon Baker

Please contact me (click on my name) for website issues, problems with contacting OPCs etc or if you would like to volunteer to become an OPC. I do not normally have resources to provide look ups for parishes other than those for which I am also the OPC (Buckland Newton and Glanvilles Wootton).

I will continue to make updates on a regular basis and have a healthy backlog of updates to be done as and when time permits. I hope you continue to enjoy the information that this site provides, there are many unsung heroes who have contributed so much to the project in the past and who continue to do so, not least the founder of the project Lynda and her successor Jennifer.

Lookups

Keith Searson Keith is willing to "Look Up" items for Parishes that do not have an OPC at present and where information required is not covered on the Parish site. Please click on Keith's name to send email, and clearly identify the Parish name and surname in the subject line of the email. Please note that the Dorset History Centre has introduced car parking charges (£3.40 for 2 hours), so Keith will usually now be visiting monthly during the last week, please bear this in mind when requesting lookups

Glenda Lightowler (I to Z)
The OPC Project is pleased to announce that we will be adding a Dorset Strays index to the OPC site. Keith and Glenda will be co-ordinating this index and we will gradually build up this resource during the coming months. If you have any references to people born in the County of Dorset that are found elsewhere (either in another County in England, or in any other country) please forward them to the appropriate co-ordinator. Keith will handle strays with surnames beginning with the letters A through H, Glenda will deal with those whose surnames are in the range I through Z

Strays could be found in a variety of resources, such as Census records, Birth/Baptism, Marriage and Death/Burial (BMD) type records, or in any other type of appropriate record (e.g. Wills. Shipping records, etc). Please ensure that you provide not only the details of the name, but also a reference if possible, for example for the 1861 census of England & Wales add the record reference (RG9/Piece Number/Folio/Page/Schedule number). We will add a page for Dorset Strays to the site once we have sufficient numbers and will then expand the index on a regular basis

For the time being the Strays Index can be found on the Miscellany Page, this will be extended soon so that the Strays will appear on a dedicated page
