PARKSTONE is a tithing, ecclesiastical district, and picturesque suburb of Poole, on Poole Harbour, Great Canford parish, Poole parliamentary and municipal borough, petty sessional division of East Shaston, Cogdean hundred, Poole union and county court district, diocese of Salisbury, archdeaconry of Dorset, and rural deanery of Whitchurch.

The church of St Peter is in the Gothic style, with a tower, and was built in 1833, and since an ecclesiastical district has been assigned to it. The living is a perpetual curacy, of small, uncertain, annual value, arising from an endowment and the pew-rents, in the gift of, and held by, the Rev. John Parr, M.A. of Exeter College, Oxford. Here is an independent chapel; also a Wesleyan chapel.

The views of the British channel, Corfe Castle, Brownsea Castle, and other interesting objects, render this a delightful village. Sir Ivor B Guest, Bert., is Lord of the Manor. The land is generally poor heath, but has been cultivated. The subsoil is gravel with an occasional stratum of clay, admirably adapted for terra cotta articles and sanatory draining pipes, & c., and it is extensively used at the South Western Works at this place for those purposes. The population in 1861 was 1,134; acreage 3,513.
